"The guest house and setting are marvelous, the hospitality superb. Thanks for a wonderful stay."
"We have loved our tranquil time in the 'Love Cottage'."
"Paradise Found! Best sleep we've had in years. Loved the basketball hoop and new pond. Can't wait to come back. We thank you for your warmth and thoughtfulness."
"We had a wonderful, peaceful time staying at Meadowlark. We loved the view, the changing colors of light, watching the sparrows in the nest fly for the very first time. We will remember our visit filled with happy memories and eagerly look forward to coming back to the peace and quiet of Buck Bay."
One of the views from your deck. The old picturesque barn is at the edge of the meadow by our beach at Buck Bay.
Our comfortable guest house is in Olga, overlooking Buck Bay, on Orcas Island. Its large windows and spacious deck face approximately 40 acres of open meadows, ringed by hills covered with tall pine trees, and a beautiful South Westerly water view over our small beach at Buck Bay, the East Sound, Lopez Island, the ferries passing by, and in the distance, the Olympic Peninsula mountain range.
Apple tree by the Guest House in full bloom.
Our accommodations include one bedroom with a queen size bed, a queen size Simmons sofa bed in the living room, and one bathroom. The furnishings are 1920's English and American Oak antiques from my antique collection.
There are complete laundry facilities and a fully-equipped kitchen with large refrigerator-freezer, microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal and electric range and oven. The color TV has cable and a VCR and I have more than 300 videos from which you may choose, including specially selected children's films.
We have bicycle storage space, books, games, cards, back-packs and other small items for short hikes and picnics, and a basketball hoop and basketballs. The deck has a barbecue and umbrella table and chairs. There is a new wood-burning stove in the living room and all the rooms have baseboard electric heat with individual thermostats in each room.
We are open all year. We have a two night minimum and offer the seventh night free for stays of one week or more. As there are cats and dogs on the property, no pets are accepted without prior consent. Eastsound Kennels on the island are excellent for boarding and pets may be taken in and out throughout the day. All shots must be current. Our only other restriction is that Meadowlark is a STRICTLY NON-SMOKING FACILITY.
Moran State Park is two miles from Olga and includes four of the five lakes on Orcas Island. In the summer there are boating, fishing and swimming at Cascade Lake in the Park, as well as many hiking trails and Mt. Constitution the highest point in the San Juan Islands at 2400 ft. The Olga Cafe, Orcas Island Artworks, Olga Store and Olga Community Dock are all within walking distance of Buck Bay, and Doe Bay, with thermal hot tubs, kayaking and restaurant, is two miles to the other side of us.
The best things we provide are peace and quiet in a private, gorgeous, country location. Orcas Island is a little bit of heaven and is approached by either the Washington State Ferries from Anacortes, or by air from Seattle. We will be happy to send current schedules, tourist information and maps should you wish them. Please write to: Barbara Wheeler, Meadowlark Guest House, 444 Pt. Lawerance, Olga, WA 98279 or telephone 360-376-3224 if we may answer your questions or give you further information. We look forward to hearing from you.
