Orcas Island has long been a favorite destination for generations of vacation seekers. The northernmost stop for the Washington State Ferry in the San Juan Islands, Orcas Island has 57 square miles of mountain vistas, wooded trails, winding roads, and 125 miles of saltwater shoreline. Located about 80 miles northwest of Seattle, Orcas Island is easily accessible by car, ferry, airplane, bus and private boat.
How to get there
The easiest way to reach Orcas Island is via ferry boat from Anacortes. Getting a spot on the ferry with your car may require a wait, so be sure to arrive early, bring some snacks and a good book. Allow at least an extra hour before boarding!
By car, travel North on I-5 from Seattle (or South on I-5 from Vancouver), take Exit 230 (Burlington/ Anacortes) and go West on Highway 20 into Anacortes. Follow the signs to the ferry terminal. From either Seattle or Vancouver the trip takes about 2 hours. There is also direct ferry service from Victoria, B.C.Washington State Ferry Information: (206) 464-6400
