A few words from the Artistic Director...

Dear Chamber Music Lovers,

Welcome to Season Four of the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival! We are thrilled to present another series of joyful chamber music programs performed by world-class musicians in the beautiful acoustics of Orcas Center and Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Aloysia and JackieThis season will showcase chamber music masterpieces for piano and strings, including the majestic Piano Quintet by Brahms and the absolutely exhilarating Mendelssohn Octet, both of which will feature the return of violinist William Preucil. In the Mendelssohn, Bill will be joined by his wife, sister, and brother-in-law, and I will be joined by my father, making the Octet truly a family affair!

We also will feature Orcas Island's favorite clarinetist Owen Kotler in Mozart's elegant Clarinet Quintet, and in romantic pieces by Max Bruch. We will even tip our hat to the world of jazz with the Jazz Sextet by legendary pianist Dick Hyman.

I am looking forward to introducing you to our new Administrative Director, Kristi Anderson. While the artistic role of the Festival will always be my first concern, the administrative responsibilities are many and are increasingly demanding. Since February, Kristi has run and organized everything! Please join our wonderful Board and me in welcoming Kristi to our musical family.

Louisa LundgrenIt is with deep sorrow that last year we lost our founding board member and friend, Louisa Lundgren. Louisa encouraged us, supported us, was our faithful secretary and had visions for the Festival beyond our wildest dreams.
We are in the process of establishing a Memorial Fund to honor and keep Louisa's memory alive. This fund will allow us to feature a guest pianist each season. In this capacity, we are happy to present pianist Jamie Parker, who will perform Beethoven's noble Archduke Trio and will also be heard performing celebrated duets by Faur‚ and Schubert with his brother Jackie.

Aloysia FriedmannWe look forward to seeing you this Labor Day week. Whether you are residents of the San Juan Islands or visitors from afar, we invite you to come to Orcas Island and share in our celebration of music and nature!
